Kitchen Story
Brunch is the most important meal on the weekends, and if you’re in San Francisco, it’s the only meal that matters on the weekend. Expect to wait at least over an hour at the latest trending brunch spot. Kitchen Story is no exception, but it’s worth the wait.
The french toast is two layers with marscapone cream in between, dipped in batter, fried, and topped with fresh fruit. This dish is decadent but not overwhelmingly sweet like most french toast. I wanted to finish it all, however I was sharing, so out of politeness, I refrained.
Don’t forget to order the millionaire bacon. It’s sweet, salty and spicy all in one bite.
The belly rancheros with slow cooked Kurobata pork belly, avocado, arugula, and Kimchi pico de gallo over corn tortillas were amazing! The Kimich pico de gallo was more like a green sauce than a pico de gallo, but the flavor burst put this dish over the top. Everything coated with this sauce tasted delicious and helped balance the sweetness of the pork belly. Dreaming of the sauce now!

The open face breakfast with a Wagyu patty, spinach, mushroom, white cheddar and two eggs sunny side up reminded me of loco moco. This dish wasn’t bad but the AMAZINGNESS of the other two plates made this one lackluster.

bills Sydney
While researching for a brunch place, the name bills Sydney, a famous Australian brunch place that has made its way to Tokyo, kept popping up. We decided to give it a try. Our first attempt was unsuccessful. We arrived at 10 am and they told us to come back at 1 pm. The wait was THAT long.
The next day, we tried to go again and only had to wait 20 minutes for a table. Not knowing what the to expect, we were in for a surprise. The food was AMAZING!
Sweet corn fritters, roast tomato, spinach, bacon and avocado salsa– The corn was naturally sweet and perfectly seasoned. I had to stop myself from gobbling it all up at once.

Ricotta hotcakes, banana and honeycomb butter– The fluffiest pancakes ever! Heavenly and not overly sweet. I can’t wait to try to recreate these. Or travel to have these again.

Tip: You can make reservations in advance. It’s located on the top floor of Tokyu Plaza.
(Tokyu Plaza, Omotesando Harajuku 7F, 4-30-3 Jingu-mae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0001)
If you can’t go to Japan to try these amazing hotcakes but happen to be in Hawaii, check out their Oahu location. (280 Beach Walk, Honolulu, HI 96815)
Clinton St. Baking Company
Clinton St. Baking Company is my favorite NY brunch spot. When I discovered, they had branched out to Japan, I did a happy dance and ran straight to deliciousness.
Smoked salmon potato pancake– This was okay. The quality wasn’t what I expected maybe due to the difference in the potato? The salmon had a hint of fishy smell. I did enjoy the lemon creme fraiche.

Blueberry Pancakes- These were my favorite in NY, and they were as good as I remembered them to be. Light and fluffy with a dunk in the maple butter sauce. Happiness in one bite. A must try when going here.

The Tokyo location is located at:5-17-1, Minami Aoyama, Minato-ku, (“kotto street”) Tokyo 107-0062. New York is the original location.
